Shakespeare's Tales
Lovers and Other Idiots is a collection of stories gleaned from the original source material that inspired Shakespeare to write some of his most famous and best loved plays.
Initially developed for the education department of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, it has grown into a piece to be enjoyed by adults and children alike. Full of humour, pathos and engaging on a personal level, it serves as a perfect introduction to Shakespeare's work and is a wonderful counterpoint to a wholly academic approach. Should you choose, it also offers a starting point for study and debate: Shakespeare made some fundamental changes to the material. Why, how, and the impact those changes make offer a wonderful insight into his creative process... Alternatively, just sit back, listen and enjoy!
Source material currently in the repertoire includes the inspiration for:
The Merchant of Venice
Much Ado About Nothing
Othello
The Winter's Tale
Available to book for schools, art centres, storytelling clubs or any other adventurous venues. I adapt the material to suit the specific age group, but recommend this for 5 years (yes they really do get it!) and upwards. Running time varies according to age, but as a guide 45 mins for children, to 1 hour for adults.
