Saul Jaffe - Artistic Director
Saul is an actor and writer, as well as artistic director of BodyJam, which he founded in order to give focus to the work of the intelligent actor. He has been an integral member of several other writing and performance teams including Lively Arts, Just Add Water, UpStage and Mazelprov, who have created extended, largely improvised, performance pieces that directly engage the audience. His theatre acting credits to date include; The Ramayana (RNT and Birmingham Rep); Telling Tales and Tales From Home (Tricycle, American and Eastern European tours, for the Besht Tellers); Macbeth; A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Field; Liquidising Lizards (New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich); Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead; The Tempest (Solent People’s Theatre) If I Were Lifted Up; The Taming of the Shrew (AANDBC); Macbeth (English Shakespeare Company). Radio: Sapphire and Steel; The Tomorrow People (Big Finish); Sabbath Dei; In the Year of the Cat; The Green Man (BBV) Film: First Knight; Mission Impossible; Judge Dredd. For BodyJam he has written, performed and/or directed: Man From the River; The Volcano Club; The Misguided Adventures of Pinocchio; Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp.
He was a recent winner of Greenwich Theatre’s Ten Minute Musicals challenge in which he turned his hand to writing lyrics for the first time.
Lena gained a BA in Performing Arts at Middlesex University, majoring in drama, before pursuing a career as an actor and writer. While she was at University she was able to experiment through writing and directing for the stage, she also adapted her BA to include television and film studies, where she gained experience across the board, in camera work, writing, directing, producing and editing. For five years after leaving university she worked as an actress on a wide variety of roles for both the stage and screen, these include Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich); Field (Wolsey Studio); Liquidizing Lizards (Half-Moon Theatre); Peter Pan (ICA); Pride and Prejudice (Corbett Theatre); Guys and Dolls (Sir George Monoux College Theatre).
In 2001 she became Creative Producer of BodyJam Theatre Company, being involved in the artistic development of the company, creating a new body of work and developing an audience base for that work. Over the past few years she has developed her writing across all media and, along with several productions for the stage, she has also had a short film produced in New York by Blooblah Films, The Looker. Towards the end of last year was commissioned to rewrite a feature length comedy and an original spin-off pilot, due to be shot in London and New Zealand in Summer '06. She also writes for the BBC drama series Doctors.
After being nominated by The New Wolsey Theatre, Lena is one of The 50, a BBC and Royal Court joint scheme for discovering and nurturing new writing talent from around the country. She will also be adapting BodyJam and Proteus' Christmas co-production A Daughter of the Aurora.
